IndieGoGo.com Campaign
Art To The People is an exciting avenue for artists from different disciplines to collaborate and educate our communities about art. Weekly we will come together in a neighborhood or community, do an outreach to the surrounding area to promote a variety of focused workshops ranging from technique to presentation and offer a "gallery" exhibit in the neighborhood along with a free concert. Art To The People brings a large canvas tent to the neighborhood on a Friday morning, we may set up in a parking lot, open field or even a backyard. Our activists will canvass the area distributing flyers for free Saturday afternoon workshops. Three artists will collaborate on a themed exhibit on Friday night and Saturday morning. The workshops will convene in the afternoon and an exhibit of nine (9) works created by the collaborating artists Friday night and Saturday morning will be displayed in the "gallery" tent following a free concert by a local band. The gallery will also show on Sunday evening. The art will be shown and sold onsite and in various regional galleries and also online at www.Artforthepeople.info. The proceeds from the art will be re-invested into this community outreach. As a curator for a local gallery I (Armando) am sometimes frustrated by the lack of impact our art makes on the community at large. The traditional gallery is static and focused on bringing people to the gallery to see the art. Art To The People is a gallery in a very non-traditional sense, we are focused on bringing "art to the people" in a mobile fashion. Our goal is to create a bridge that educates individuals about art, and more importantly, about how they can become a part of the art community themselves. Another important function of Art To The People is giving artists an opportunity to collaborate with other artists from different disciplines and of different ages and backgrounds to create new work and to get paid while they are doing it. This is a great way for artists to be encouraged in their work and also to make a little money to underwrite their own artistic efforts. With the up front cost of purchasing the tent and supplies we will do an initial run of four (4) months. This will allow us to have three (3) artists (various as available) work each weekend as well as a different band each week. $200 for a 10’ x 30’ starter tent (used tent) $200 for small generator $200 for lights ($600 up front cost) $2100 per month for 3 artists per week @ $100 each and a band @ $200 $100 for supplies and printing (per month) $2200 per month $8,800 for a four month project. + 600.00 to purchase tent and supplies $9,400.00 We will also be generating income form the sales of the work and various items promoted through participating galleries and our website, http://arttothepeople.info and seeking community funding. If we don't meet our four month goal we will work with what we have and adjust as necessary. After our first four month run we will fund raise as necessary. We will bring Art To The People with your help. Thank you! Please promote Art To The People and our funding campaign to your friends, colleagues and families!
